This simple but not simplistic video by Ray Dalio, Founder of Bridgewater Associates, shows the basic driving forces behind the economy, and explains why economic cycles occur by breaking down concepts such as credit, interest rates, leveraging and deleveraging. Super interesting x
Just sharing the love from Eva’s video projection in the Turbine Hall on Sydney’s Cockatoo Island in 2014 Biennale. Such a powerful work by such a powerful artist.
We love this essay by Anthony Huberman on how to approach art making today. The game of chess has well and truly disappeared. Its time to behave better and take care. It feels just like how we approach our making and how we host our visiting artists in Toowoomba, Australia to RAYGUN. Check it out
And while we’re sharing the love…
Eva Koch (Denmark) at RAYGUN, Toowoomba.
Internationally renowned and award winning Danish Video Artist Eva Koch presented her work ‘Evergreen’ to our local community. ‘Evergreen’ was shot on location in the Faroe Islands, Denmark, where Eva lived as a young child. The video installation is about the power of the group and about the cruelty inherent in us that can mercilessly exclude an individual from the group. A single circular line, simple and precise, the work defines an almost archetypical memory, which is enacted among humans at other levels all through our lives. The work is representative of the overarching theme within her work: that compassion is the paramount value that demonstrates our humanity.
Eva studied Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona, Spain and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, Denmark. She has held both solo and group shows consistently for over 25 years and her work is held in public and private collections around the world including Denmark, Sweden, Spain, and USA. She is a recipient of multiple awards including the prestigious Thorvaldsen Medal, being the highest award and distinction in the visual arts in Denmark. Eva has exhibited at various Biennales including Venice and Sydney and in 2014 her video installation I Am A River was highly celebrated for its contribution on Cockatoo Island
On Friday night we had Eva Koch’s opening, RAYGUN was transformed into a screening room showing the video work ‘Evergreen’. Since being in Australia, Eva has given a presentation about her work at RMIT, in Melbourne, visited Uluru, spoken about her work at the University of Southern Queensland and Dogwood Crossing in Miles, installed her video Evergreen, which has also been screened publicly courtesy of Ric’s Outdoor Flicks.
Below is a visual summary.
Eva Koch speaking about her work Evergreen at RAYGUN PROJECTS
We are just loving having Eva visit us in Toowoomba from Denmark for her show at RAYGUN. With so many screenings for her work (from Melbourne to Miles and Toowoomba) we feel like it is the carnival of Eva! This morning we went for a hike up to Toowoomba’s Table Top Mountain and had such fun. More to the point we survived.
As a guest artist to the annual RAYGUN Projects calendar, Eva will be showing her work at various locations and events including the University of Southern Queensland on Monday 28th September at 12.30 in the Arts Theatre Room A112, also at Dogwood Crossing Gallery, Miles on Wednesday 30th September at 10.30am; RAYGUN Projects, 249 Margaret Street, Toowoomba on Friday 2nd October at 6pm and an open air cinema at Ground Up Espresso Bar, 501 Ruthven Street, Toowoomba, at 6.15pm, BYO chair. Tickets to the open air cinema available at Ground Up Espresso Bar.

This last week we were lucky enough to have Danish video artist Eva Koch arrive in Australia for her show with us in October. We met up in Melbourne and were hosted around the beautiful city by our amazing Arts Patron Bill Burns. We were so spoilt and saw so many amazing things including a trip to the country side, and had so many amazing conversations. As a part of the visit, Eva presented her work to Post Grad students at RMIT thanks to Andrew Tetzlaff. She has taken off for a week into the heart of Australia to see the Rock and Outback, and then to Toowoomba where she will exhibit both in the project space, as well as a public screening in a laneway to over 200 visitors. Super excited to share her with you.
