Last night Ali had a few people to the new RAYGUN space for a one night pop up show to talk about her new project. Ali is currently investigating the idea of liminal spaces (the space in between) and displayed numerous jars, each containg a succulent cutting, and placed them on the window sills. The idea is about the plant which has come from a stationary, concrete space, being the garden, and then being moved to the environment within the jar and then finally being transported home with the spectator (Ali gave each viewer a jar to take home). Each new owner of their new transportable garden, or new life, places it in their own home or place, takes a photo of it and sends the image of it back to Ali if they so wish. These images will be shared on her blog at www.terrariumproject.com
There was lots of really interesting feedback, dialogue and response about the work. One of her friends, the beautiful Kate, bought Ali a gift of a tiny cutting in a miniature jar which she had suspended onto leather so that the plant my be worn as a necklace and transported to lots of new locations. I loved the night and really think of it as an extension of Ali’s true self, sharing, inclusive and sensitive. For more information on the evolving project go to http://terrariumproject.com/about/
