Lee Walton – Father and Daughter View the Exhibition
Prior to the opening of More Love, at the Ackland Art Museum, Walton put out an open-call for participants in his piece, Father and Daughter View the Exhibition. During every one of the 43 days that More Love is on view, a father-daughter pair will enter the Museum at 4:00 PM, view the exhibition, and exit at precisely 4:30 PM. By its nature, Walton’s piece makes an everyday event into art, but because the father-daughter pairs will not be identified in any way, the piece blurs the lines between spectacle and the quotidian. Walton’s piece draws attention to the experiences that make us human and the heightened awareness of moments shared with loved ones.

Jan Verwoert
Jan Verwoert asked the question why are conceptual artists painting again? Because they think it’s a good idea. Check out his talk at the Glasgow School of Art in 2010.
The canvas becomes a space for thinking and looking, doing away with heroic fictions and moments, questions and answers, and deal with the ‘domestic dust’.
The emergence of a structure testifies that at the beginning there was none.

Art Proper
The RAYGUN girls were lucky enough to spend time recently with the fabulous Samantha Williams. Sam is half of a Curators Run Initiative called ‘Art Proper’ who facilitate shows that pop up in various venues throughout Sydney. Their first show ‘A heap of Broken Images’ is open now. Soul Kitchen Opening. David Usher
Last night David Usher’s exhibition ‘Soul Kitchen’ opened. We received the biggest crowd we’ve seen at RAYGUN. The room was filled with hand thrown and painted bowls. People were invited to take one, help themselves to one of the big pots of food on the kitchen table in the middle of the room, and then take their bowl home with them. The room was cleared by the end of the night, it was huge. Thanks to everyone who came and supported.

MINUS SPACE and GABRIELE EVERTZ
Two things we love, the artist run space MINUS SPACE, which acts as a platform for reductive art on the international level. Based in Brooklyn, they have been running for around ten years now and have maintained their focus and had exhibitions of the highest level. Check them out www.minusspace.com.

Mathias Kryger Opening Night
…..and finally the opening night. The space filled up with people to see Mathias Kryger perform Uvula u vu la, a masterfully synthesised cocktail of dynamic sound and visual imagery through poetic storytelling. The event was recorded and Mathias will send us back a mastered version of the performance which we hope to post up soon.
We have sent him on to new adventures in Sydney and can’t wait to visit him in Copenhagen when RAYGUN has an exchange with NLH Art Space in 2014.
